How I replaced doomscrolling.

Having a deep bench of non-tech things to do when tempted by my gadgets has played a big role in finding my sweet spot with technology.

It's an elusive sweet spot.

Here are some things I do —

Fold paper cranes. It's the only origami I know by heart. I keep stacks of paper hanging about to make things super convenient.

I do this when I'm making my Aeropress coffee, which involves many idle minutes.

Knit. Right now, I'm knitting socks. They're funny-looking, and they are satisfying.

I do this in the evening instead of doomscrolling.

Juggle. I sent a timer for five minutes, and I juggle.

I juggle a lot while I'm working. It has replaced internet “breaks” between projects or when I’m having a hard time writing, which is when I am most vulnerable to the evils of the internet black hole.
